20-year-old trader arrested for alleged pickpocket

A 20-year-old orange seller, one Mustapha Garba,

was Thursday arraigned by the Police in a Mararaba

Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, Nasarawa State, on

a two-count-charge of criminal conspiracy and

theft.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Adaji, told the court that

on October 12, one Jarfar Gabriel of Tudun Wada

Mararaba, reported the case at the 'A' Division

Police Station, Mararaba.

According to the complainant, Adaji said at about

6.30 p.m., while Gabriel was coming back from

work, on getting to Mararaba Junction, the accused

came close to him and removed his Itel phone from

his pocket valued at N12, 000.

The prosecutor further said the complainant also

accused Garba of removing his wallet which

contained his National ID, two ATM cards and N3,

000, adding that after the suspect took the phone

and wallet, he immediately handed it over to one

Abdullahi, who is now at large, before he was

arrested.

Adaji said that the offences contravened the

provisions of sections 97 and 288 of the Penal

Code.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Judge, Albert Maga, granted the accused bail in

the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum

who must reside within the court's jurisdiction.

The judge adjourned the matter till October 23
